Hiking Colorado Western Slope Falcon Guides Bill Haggerty 9781493024360 Books Reviews

  • This is a great Hiking guide book to some little known but beautiful examples of Colorados Mountain Ranges and western Red Rock Canyons. The book is very complete, it gives detailed descriptions even including recommended rest stops that have shade and streams. Each hike gets you from the nearest town to the trail head. GPS coordinates are used through out the book for trail heads and way points on trails. Most of the hikes are easy day hikes. Averaging about 3 hour, a lot of them go to lakes and back. Fishermen will find this book useful to reach some of those high lakes that don't get many visitors. The authors great photographs show the beauty that awaits you at the end of the hikes or along the way. He covers 13,000' peaks and valleys and desert hikes through red rocks and indian ruins. The publisher Falcon Guides has teamed up with Nat Geo TOPO! and include maps in the book that will suffice in a pinch. The author sprinkles the book with helpful outdoor tips and identifies the flowers and animals that you might see on the hikes. Hi knowledge gleaned from his years with wildlife biologists has paid off. He no only points the way but makes the trip a learning experience. This book would make a great bucket list for anyone starting to hike in Colorado. For the experienced hiker here are some great hidden gems.
  • An amazing guide with breathtaking photos - we have given several as gifts!!
  • As with “Best Easy Day Hikes...” this is a great way to get folks away from the boob tube and back where we need to be... ‘take a hike’ he says!!!
  • Well written hiking guide book, written by a Colorado native who knows the area.
  • The book is well produced, however, I was surprised at the number of mediocre trails in this area.
Decided to hike elsewhere this year.
  • The hikes are from "off the beaten path" on the western slope of Colorado, which I love! I don't want to go places that have hundreds of people on them. The photographs are so beautiful, and each hike description includes something about either history, archeology, or biology to go along with it. So you learn something as well! Very well done.
  • I got this from the library and here I am wanting a copy of my own. He's tried to list 2 or 3 of what he thinks are the best hikes in each of the many places you'd want to go on the Western Slope (which is a huge area).
  • What a wonderful way to discover Western Colorado. I've lived here for years, and still this book has helped me find new and fascinating places to visit. The book is well organized, the writing is clear and the trail descriptions are quite accurate. Oh yes, and the photography is stunning!
