Are You Ready to Adopt? An Adoption Insider Look from the Other Side of the Desk Dewey L Crepeau Esq 9780989373265 Books Reviews
- As an adoption social worker, I am asked so many questions about the adoption process. Dewey answers all of these questions and more. I would highly recommend this book to professionals and anyone who is beginning their adoption journey.
- All too often adoptive parents aren't really sure about how to adopt, what adoption professionals are really looking for in adoptive parents, or how adoption has changed in the past 50 years or so. With a special emphasis on domestic infant adoption, Dewey is very candid about how adoption processes have changed over his 30+ year practice, what will knock you out of consideration entirely, and what will just greatly lengthen your wait. I like his more conversational style, and anecdotes sprinkled throughout that really helped illustrate how it all works. If you are considering adoption (any kind, but particularly infant adoption) this book is a must-read.
- My husband and I have tentatively begun considering the possibility of adoption. We're not sure if this is the path for us and we were looking for a basic "how to" guide to give us a solid foundation.
This book proved to be just what we were looking for -- easy to understand, the basics explained and letting us know what we could expect so we can make an informed decision. It is written by someone who knows what they are talking about.
Definitely worth it. . . - This book has the merits of being both easy to read and very informative. The text gives realistic details of the adoption process as well as providing a number of scenarios that a reader considering adoption may find relatable. Also, it shares data and statistics for those viewing the adoption process for scholarly purposes only. I highly recommend this source for readers both considering adoption as well as those who would like to know more about adoption processes in general. It is abundantly clear that the author is very experienced in the field of adoption.
- As a single person contemplating adoption, I found this book very informative. I was a little discouraged by the reality, but really appreciated that author Dewey Crepeau didn't hold back about how it can be more difficult, although not impossible, to adopt as a single woman. The conversational style that it was written, made it a quick read as it wasn't laden with formal texts and was easier to understand than a lot of the other books related to this topic.
- This book has plenty of first hand stories from someone who has been working in the adoption field for many years. It is a great starting point for families considering adoption.
- As executive director for an adoption agency, I am very pleased to finally have a resource book to recommend to our clients that will walk them through the adoption process. The book addresses all the major concerns prospective adoptive parents express about adopting a child. It includes information someone adopting may not even know to ask. A definite resource for anyone considering adoption.
- As an adoption social worker, I highly recommend this book. This book is easy to read and provides a prospective adoptive parent with an understanding of the entire process of adoption. Mr. Crepeau has created an excellent resource that I recommend to my clients and recommend to anyone who is interested in adoption.
