Noragami Stray God 12 Adachitoka Books Reviews

  • I own a lot of manga but there are very few series I actually collect all the volumes for. Noragami is one of those series I intend to collect each and every volume. Great cast of characters, I actually can't recall one character I don't like. While I think some story arcs take longer than needed, each and every volume has a lot to offer. In volume 12 we start learning a more about Yato's past as well as the "God's Secret" and how that affects Yukine. I can't wait to find out more in the next volume!
  • love me some history and explanations great read on to the next edition still waiting on the next season anime release date
  • Honestly, I don't think I'll ever stop loving this series
  • A fun series and a quick read.
  • Series is definitely in my top 5 manga
  • ~4/5
    (Contains some spoilers.)
We get a couple of revelations in this volume. One of them being what the gods’ secret really is, but also relating to that, we get to see Yato’s past.

The gods’ secret at first just seems very sad for both parties, but the reveal at the end is horrible and not quite what I expected. Yato’s past is just horrible and sad and I hate his father. When he was a kid he was taught horrible things, because he was made to be a certain type of god that he’s rebelling against now. Seeing a kid killing people will always be a terrible image, especially when done gleefully, ugh. Horrifying. Even worse when you already love the character.

Seeing him start to learn that other people don't find killing good, and when he wants so bad to make people happy, is so sweet though.

I don’t see how his father is ever going to be seen as a good character in any way, and I really hope that doesn’t happen. What he did to Yato, and how he treated Hiiro as well. There’s no coming back from that.

I’ve said this before, but I love how this series can have such serious moments, but so smoothly mix in some humor to lighten it up. Like when Yato finds out that Hiyori and his father know each other, and went to the amusement park together? Hilarious.

This series is just excellent, and I’m kind of obsessed with it at this point. I can’t wait for the next one.

  • This volume concentrates mostly on Yato, the stray, and their father. The stray is out to get revenge on Yukine by letting him know that the Gods have a secret, by the end of the book we know what that secret is and why they keep it. Plenty of flashbacks to Yato's childhood with the stray and his character develops a lot here now that we know his awful beginnings. Just a few cameos from the other characters. Nothing moves forward with this volume but it's a deep examination which is obviously going to affect the direction of the plot as it continues. It's amazing how much Yato has matured since the beginning of this series!
  • I want to do everything possible to help make this series go more public. It's currently a hidden masterpiece, and I think more people need to be aware of it.
